Mayo County Council is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Assistant Engineer. Assistant Engineers are appointed to a wide variety of roles across the Council. The role can include responsibility for the management and successful delivery of a range of major and minor capital projects; responsibility for the management and effective delivery of a range of services and responsibility for the management and supervision of assigned staff. The person appointed will work under the direction and control of the Senior Engineer or Senior Executive Engineer, Executive Engineer or other officer designated by the Director of Services or the Chief Executive. The ideal candidate must therefore be a highly motivated person, with a strong sense of commitment to delivering quality public services, willing to take on a challenge and work on their own initiative.

Mayo County Council is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Civil Technician Grade I. The Civil Technician Grade I is a key support position within the Council and is assigned to a service delivery area or to support a functional area as required. The Civil Technician Grade I will work under the direction and management of the Executive Technician or analogous grade or other employee designated by the Senior Executive Officer, Senior Engineer or Director of Services as appropriate. The role involves supporting managers and colleagues and working as part of a team in meeting work goals and objectives and delivering quality services to internal and external customers. The role requires a clear knowledge and understanding of local authority services and its key stakeholders and relationships, local government structures and its democratic role and mandate, current local government issues, future trends and strategic direction of the sector. Successful applicants may be assigned to any service area/role within the local authority by the Chief Executive at any time.

Mayo County Council is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates with relevant experience for the position of Foreman. It is proposed to form panels of qualified candidates from which any vacancies (permanent or temporary) which arise will be filled during the lifetime of the panel. The Foreman role is that of a working foreman, and the post holder shall undertake general operative duties as part of the crew and shall lead the crew in their work. The Foreman grade is a supervisory outdoor grade in Mayo County Council and is a critical post in terms of ensuring quality service delivery to the public. This will involve working closely with a wide range of local authority stakeholders including businesses, schools, towns committees, residents’ associations and other community groups. The duties will be of a general, manual or related nature including motivating and managing staff. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, proactive self-starter, adaptable, flexible, have experience of the management and supervision of teams, capable of acting on their own initiative and someone with a strong sense of commitment to delivering quality public services. The successful candidate shall report to the General Services Supervisor or other appropriate person as determined by the Council from time to time.
